The “thief” Jesus mentions could be anything. Think about your life. Anyone or anything that gets between you and happiness is a thief. Anyone or anything that steals your potential, kills a relationship, or destroys your freedom is a thief. And, yes, the number one thief in your life is you.

What does it mean when Jesus calls himself the good shepherd? None of us likes to be compared to sheep, because sheep aren’t bright enough to take care of themselves. But remember: most of our trouble is self-inflicted. Again, we bought it, leased it, smoked it, drank it, or slept with it. From Jesus’ perspective, we have a lot in common with sheep. We hurt ourselves by chasing after all of the wrong things. That’s why he offers himself as a good shepherd worth following. If someone is willing to lay down his life for you, he is for you. He is worth following.

In this session, we’re going to explore two words: “happiness” and “pleasure.” We’ll take a look at the relationship between them.
